Empowering Active Ageing
Connecting Generations
SeniORGarden empowers seniors to stay socially and physically active through intergenerational learning. By bringing together the traditional gardening knowledge of older generations and the digital skills of young people, we create opportunities to learn and work together on sustainable agriculture. Rooted in the goals of the European Green Deal, the project focuses on building and maintaining organic gardens using eco-friendly and smart technologies.
Objectives
SeniORGarden is driven by clear objectives that combine sustainability, innovation, and social inclusion to empower seniors and create lasting community impact. The objectives of the project are to:
-
Equip senior people with knowledge and skills required for the development and maintenance of organic gardens utilising customised smart gardening devices and practices;
-
Establish a sense of community and social inclusion among seniors by participating in mixed with younger generations organic and smart gardening group activities to encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mutual support;
-
Educate participants on sustainable gardening practices, fostering environmental management by emphasising on ecofriendly approaches, water conservation, and by reducing the overall environmental impact of gardening activities through organic cultivations and smart technologies;
-
Encourage the cultivation of organic trees, vegetables, and herbs in smart gardens, promoting healthy nutrition among senior participants and enhancing their overall well-being and physical activity;
-
Create a sustainable model for the project that includes ongoing support, mentorship, and community engagement, ensuring the long-term success and impact of organic and smart gardening practices among senior citizens.
